About:
Najwa Awad, LCSW-C is a licensed clinical social worker who offers therapy services to individuals, couples and families in Maryland and online. In 2007 she received her Masters in Social Work from Virginia Commonwealth University with a specialization in the clinical treatment of individuals and families. Additionally, she has extensive post-graduate training in the treatment of psychiatric trauma.
Najwa’s experience in the field is diverse and includes providing services at a large Washington metropolitan Islamic Center, group homes, public schools, outpatient clinics and in the foster care system. Najwa treats a wide variety of mental health issues including anxiety, depression, psychiatric trauma, adjustment disorder and behavior disorders.
In 2013 Najwa decided to use her experience in the field to start her own practice, with a special focus on servicing the Maryland Muslim community, which is underserved when it comes to mental health services. Her goal is to provide quality psychotherapy that is culturally sensitive and congruent with Muslim values. With many years of experience being part of the Muslim community, Najwa believes she has both the clinical training and the familiarity with the community to make a difference.
In addition to giving regular mental health workshops in the community, she is also Fellow at the Yaqeen Institute for Islamic Research, and a Steering Committee Member at UMMAH (United for Muslim Mental Advocacy & Health: A grassroots initiative to de-stigmatize mental illness and address the mental health needs of Muslim communities).
