Asma is a Registered Psychotherapist with the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario and has completed a master’s degree in Counselling Psychology from the University of Toronto. Asma has particular experience working alongside adult clients who have experienced childhood and adult trauma_and_posttraumatic_stress_disorder_ptsd in both individual and group capacity within clinical outpatient and research settings such as the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH), Women’s College Hospital, the Canadian Centre for Victims of Torture, and Naseeha youth helpline. She has supported individuals with various concerns such as: trauma_and_posttraumatic_stress_disorder_ptsd, relationship and intergenerational challenges, spirituality and culture, addictive behaviours, anxiety, depression, and stress/burnout-related issues. Asma’s therapeutic approach is collaborative, non-judgemental, anti oppressive, and trauma_and_posttraumatic_stress_disorder_ptsd-informed. It honours the client’s own wisdom regarding their emotional and life experiences. Asma incorporates a systemic lens in her practice to explore how broader systems such as society, culture, and family shape our individual experiences and our relationship with the self. With the therapeutic relationship as a safety anchor for the client to reconnect with their inner wisdom and self, Asma draws from different modalities that match the client’s needs and goals, such as narrative_therapy, Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), cognitive_processing_therapy_cpt, , Somatic Therapy, Feminist Therapy, and internal_family_systems_ifs, s. Upon request, Asma is able to provide faith-based therapy for clients who identify as Muslim and can provide services in English, Arabic and French.
