About:
I take a primarily cognitive-behavioral approach to psychotherapy. During my doctoral training, I worked in a variety of clinical settings providing individual and group psychotherapy for juvenile offenders, trauma-focused cognitive behavioral therapy for child survivors of sexual abuse, and mindfulness-based cognitive therapy for university students.
I have experience administering biofeedback and relaxation training for adults with headache and migraine pain. During my pre-doctoral internship, I provided psychological services for adult sexual offenders.
After earning a doctorate in clinical psychology, I received formal training at University of Virginia’s Institute of Law, Psychiatry, and Public Policy in adult forensic evaluation. Furthermore, I completed a post-doctoral fellowship in forensic psychology in order to conduct Competency to Stand Trial and Sanity at the Time of the Offense pre-trial evaluations.
Currently, I provide individual therapy for adolescents and adults presenting with generalized anxiety, social anxiety, depression, anger issues, grief and loss, post-traumatic stress disorder, and other life issues. In all, I embrace culturally-sensitive treatment for those that wish to discuss their cultural background and religious/spiritual beliefs.
Outside of private practice, I participate in raising mental health awareness in local Muslim communities.
