My experience and education as a social worker have focused intensely on the needs of trauma survivors, particularly those who have endured interpersonal violence and abuse. I take a holistic approach to trauma recovery, addressing how our minds, bodies, and emotions respond to and cope with trauma. I am also mindful of the many ways we can suffer emotional injuries while trying to survive under racist, misogynistic, ableist, Islamophobic, and other oppressive systems. I will work with you to use therapy tools to resist the internal impacts of these systems and, where appropriate, find ways to resist their material impacts. I will never suggest that you can think, meditate, or otherwise "therapize" yourself out of being affected by these systems. I also enjoy working with adults who suspect they may be neurodivergent or have recently learned that they are, addressing both the lifelong trauma of trying to conform to neurotypical standards and the need to develop strategies that work with your unique brain rather than against it. As someone who has been a part of Muslim communities - personally and professionally - long before converting myself, I also have a unique lens on the joys and struggles of being a newer Muslim and/or those who are navigating intercultural or interfaith relationships.
