About:
Sumayyah Taufique received her Masters in Social Work from the University of Maryland School of Social Work. She is an active part of the local Muslim community and was a middle and high school teacher for four years prior to pursuing her masters.
As a former teacher and now therapist, Sumayyah believes and honors an individual’s ability to learn and grow. She incorporates this belief in her therapy and uses a strengths-based model that emphasizes looking at clients holistically and guides them through their journey of building a more meaningful self. Sumayyah collaborates with clients to gain a deeper understanding of themselves by identifying values, addressing barriers, and then setting goals for the present.
Sumayyah works with adolescents and adults to address anxiety, depression, life transitions, identity issues, parenting challenges, spirituality, and adjustment disorders using a diverse set of evidence based clinical tools. She works to understand her clients, their cultural context, their beliefs and lifestyle, and then caters her methods to best meet their individual needs.
Sumayyah is passionate about providing an accessible, culturally responsive therapeutic environment where safety, compassion, and acceptance are integral pillars of the process. She is a currently working as as a Supervisee in Social Work gaining postgraduate hours required for state licensure.
